Running

Hi, I’m Fatigue. Have we met? 10 1/2 miler today.

Running 10 miles doesn’t sound easy, but my base is 6 miles and I’ve trimmed that down to about a 9 1/2 minute pace on average. Today my goal was to hit the 12 mile mark within 2 hours or less, and was on pace to do so until about mile 10. I’m not sure if it’s my diet or if I’m just not acclimated to the distance, but there is a big difference between 6 miles and 10 miles.

Of course, one of the main issues is that I just don’t run more than 6 miles in one shot. My body simply isn’t sure how to handle twice that distance. As well, I shouldn’t be trying to go from a 6 mile base to twice that without slowly increasing my mileage each week.

So, having said that, I’m going to make 10 miles my long run, and add miles from there. Incidentally, today was my 10 mile PR, and I was running a 9:45 pace overall. Not bad, and certainly nothing to be disappointed about. Let’s see what happens next week, and remember that every run doesn’t need to be a PR, even though today turned out to be one in disguise.

  1. Hi, I am drunkeness, I am sure WE met…….
Good for you brother. That was a good run and a good time. Twelve miles is a long way!! Most people your age could never even think of walking around the block let alone running twelve miles. Keep up the good work…

  3. Hey Brother, Well I am gonna sign up for the race in Nashville. I went to the gym today to see where I am, physically, since I have not run distances in months and then some. I ran for 60:30. At that point I was at five and a half miles and sucking wind. At five miles my pace was ten min/miles (over all), at 60:30 I slowed to 12 min/miles. I think I can barely hang with you come April, and that will be good enough for me.

  5. My body is in pain today and I have a blister on a middle toe!!! My ribs hurt when I laugh. But yet, it will all be worth it in April when I cross the finish line, ever so proud , and loose control of my bodily fuctions….in public this time :)
